The Rain: An Indo-Canadian Concurrence

Desert rain,
rhythmic drumming on tin roofs
calls of gorgeous peacocks
potent petrichor
an invitation to roam gardens and forts
children cavorting in waterlogged streets
wafts of picnic food – baati, mirchi bada, kachori.
Tempestuous
resplendent
alluring
heady
fleeting.

In the Pacific North West,
soft steady murmur
quiet bird songs
glistening moss on darkened trunks
amaranthine veil of wet
mingling with the essence of Cedars and Pines
smothering the smoke from wood fire chimneys.
Serene
ethereal
mysterious
ambrosial
ceaseless.

At home,
pluvial dreamscapes
rivulets on skylights
orange flames dancing in the woodstove
sizzling sounds of frying pakodi.
Sanctuary.
